1 Black is beautiful
(Выражение, видимо, заимствовано из Ветхого Завета (Книга Песни Песней Соломона, Псалом I, 4): "Черна я, но красива" ["I am black but beautiful"])English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Black is beautiful

13 Afro-Americans
English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Afro-Americans

14 Du Bois, William Edward Burghardt (W. E. B.)
Был одним из основателей Национальной ассоциации содействия равноправию цветного населения [ National Association for the Advancement of Colored People], и многие годы редактировал ее журнал "Крайсис" [Crisis]. Наиболее известен сборник эссе "Души негритянского народа" ["The Souls of Black Folk"] (1903), где им впервые выдвинута мысль о "двойном сознании" [double consciousness] американского негра и существование "цветного барьера" [ color line]English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Du Bois, William Edward Burghardt (W. 15 Анекдоты
To pick up - забирать, подбирать. (Популярный лозунг - Black is beautiful.) -
